Love-Hate Relationship

The Good News: we found out the first day we were at Lake Powell that our offer on a home in Boise was accepted and we will close by the end of the month.

The Bad News: we found out the first day we were at Lake Powell not during the preceding three days which we kept wide open to deal with housing issues.

The Good News: we had excellent cell phone coverage on the Verizon network at Lake Powell, allowing us to spend hours making and taking phone calls, checking email, electronically signing loan documents, and reviewing contract provisions related to the sale and purchase of our homes.

The Bad News: we had excellent cell phone coverage so we spent HOURS on the house boat and sitting on red rocks making and taking phone calls, checking email, electronically signing loan documents, and reviewing contract provisions related to the sale and purchase of our homes.

The Good News: the people who work at the Marina and hotel at Lake Powell are SUPER nice and helpful and printed documents, made copies, faxed things, and basically acted as our personal secretaries for two days. (Honestly, they acted like it was the most interesting thing they had done in weeks!)

The Bad News: we spent two days driving back and forth in the boat to the Marina so that the people who work at the Marina and hotel at Lake Powell could print documents, make copies, fax things, and basically act as our personal secretaries for two days.

The Good News: Lake Powell is beautiful, and Mia and Maggie loved swimming and knee boarding and hanging out with their second cousins, even if we paid very little attention to them.

The Bad News: Lake Powell was beautiful, and Mia and Maggie loved it, and we paid very little attention to any of it.

The Bottom Line: I just can't decide if I feel gratitude or a sense of great loss and disappointment that the days of escaping to a clock-free, technology-free, unreachable corner of the country for a vacation are no more. I just am not sure...
